Change Log

Meaningful public changes to Spirit Nation, listed newest first.

Support Spirit Nation

  • Added labeled rectangle advertisements between reading sections, across the Scripture library, Codex, preacher archives, sermon pages, historical works and study pages.
  • Added Support Us beside Account and a $5/month Pro subscription for ad-free reading while signed in. API plans remain separate.
  • Added 93 original, source-linked study-note pages: all 65 additional Charles H. Spurgeon entries, 14 John Wesley sermons, and 14 Jonathan Edwards sermons.
  • Published 176 additional contemporary sermon-note pages across the contemporary preacher archive, based on full sermon recordings, captions, and locally generated transcriptions, with Scripture references, practical study, and discussion questions.
  • Short readings have one ad placement; longer readings have two, with additional spaced placements in large indexes.

Reader Reliability

  • Removed the simplified reader response that could hide study tools and saved progress on first load. Complete guest reading pages now come from a bounded cache, and chapter navigation has a reserved browser lane during heavy crawler traffic.
  • Corrected reader cache accounting and reclaimed expired pages. Chapter navigation now uses the existing library index instead of repeating costly edition and book availability queries.
  • Checked reader and library layouts at phone, tablet and desktop widths, including the book drawer and mobile navigation.

Codex and Study Guides

  • Expanded all 30 existing Codex articles and added nine more. The collection now has 16 denomination profiles, 12 belief topics and 11 Christian history entries, with longer explanations and source links.
  • Set longer guide sections as readable paragraphs and rewrote the guide note at the bottom of the Resources page.

Preacher Expansion

  • Added 155 source-linked sermon and teaching entries across the existing preachers and new historical collections for John Wesley and Jonathan Edwards. Charles H. Spurgeon gained 40 more source links, bringing his archive to 84 entries.
  • The new listings lead to credited publisher or archive pages. They do not claim to provide transcripts or study notes where those have not been prepared.

Preacher Expansion

  • Added 25 Charles H. Spurgeon sermons from The Spurgeon Library, bringing his archive to 44. The original 19 Talks to Farmers sermons still have full text and study notes here.
  • Added 89 recordings across the nine contemporary preachers, with links to the ministries’ own pages. Damon Thompson’s listings grew from 15 to 30, and Charles Metcalf’s from 3 to 15. Francis Chan, Mike Todd, Philip Anthony Mitchell, Sarah Jakes Roberts, Steven Furtick, T.D. Jakes, and Touré Roberts gained recordings too.
  • The new recording pages list the publisher and date. They link to the original audio or video; transcripts and Spirit Nation study notes have not been added for these recordings.

Historical Works

  • Opened a Historical Works reader with source credits and reading pages for Spurgeon, Matthew Henry, and John Bunyan.
  • Added all 732 readings from Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening, Henry’s six-volume Commentary on the Whole Bible, and both parts of Bunyan’s The Pilgrim’s Progress.
  • Added volumes one and two of Spurgeon’s The Treasury of David, covering Psalms 1–57. A link to the complete public-domain source points readers to the remaining Psalms.

Added Codex and Navigation Changes

  • Opened the Codex with church profiles, belief topics, and Christian history. It now has 13 denominations, nine belief topics, and eight history entries. The articles link to church statements or historical sources.
  • Put Codex in the main menu and grouped the other links under Library, Study, More, and Account. Adjusted the menu for smaller screens.
  • Added the new Codex, Historical Works, and sermon pages to the page sitemap.

Bug Fixes and Reconciliations

  • Cleaned up the reader’s book list with collapsible groups, clearer chapter and page counts, and a separate scroll area on desktop.
  • Checked edition availability across the library, including all four books of Maccabees. The version menu shows only editions with text for the selected book.
  • Updated the backup reading view to use Spirit Nation’s layout, navigation and book list, including books opened from Collections.
  • Fixed the Collections search controls and clarified the purpose of Scripture, Translations and Collections.
  • Cleaned up the October 16–19 change logs, removed repeated notes, and added the missing edition names.

Preacher Expansion

  • Rewrote the archive introduction and added a short message summary to every sermon listing.
  • Added the missing study notes to all 15 recent sermons, including the two January messages from Philip Anthony Mitchell. Each new set of notes identifies the source material used.
  • Added T.D. Jakes, Sarah Jakes Roberts, Touré Roberts, Mike Todd, Charles Metcalf and Francis Chan, with three sermons and study notes for each.
  • Separated Contemporary Sermons and Historical Sermons on the Preachers page.
  • Added Charles H. Spurgeon with the 19 sermons in the 1889 edition of Talks to Farmers: full historical texts, separate summaries and study notes, source credits, edition details and free text downloads.
  • Added archive search, historical topic filters, links from sermons to their Bible passages, and links from matching Scripture chapters to the Spurgeon collection.
  • Checked every notes page and historical text download, and tested the new pages at phone, tablet and desktop widths.

October 17: 50 editions added
October 18: 18 editions added
  • Increased the Scripture and comparison allowance so readers are interrupted less often.

  • Made the Scripture reader remember the last passage; added Reset, Reading Tools, Focus Reading, and a mobile book drawer; and tightened chapter navigation for smaller screens.
