Translation: Charles Duke Yonge

Philo Judaeus, On a Contemplative Life, or On the Virtues of Suppliants, translated by Charles Duke Yonge, The Works of Philo Judaeus, volume IV (London: Henry G. Bohn,1855), complete primary pages1–20. The original title, contents and all twenty English primary pages were checked against the Toronto Emmanuel College scan. All eleven original sections I–XI, paragraph divisions, quoted poetic lines and primary Greek wordplay are retained. Original difficult wording and apparent printing errors remain. This reading edition excludes separate scholarly footnotes and calls, running headers, printer signatures and surrounding treatises. It does not include the separate Life of Moses. Yonge (1812–1891) is identified by the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Expired original-work copyright supports commercial reuse in the assessed United States and ordinary United Kingdom scope; scan availability is not treated as permission. This is related historical Jewish literature, not a biblical book. Source: Toronto Emmanuel College scan, Internet Archive theworksofphiloj04yonguoft.

The rights statement answers a reuse question; it does not remove the need to compare translation choices, textual traditions, book order, and verse numbering. Spirit Nation keeps this edition identified on every chapter.
